The rally is upon us

The rally is upon us

It has been a busy few weeks for this mother hen as we organize 14 team members to join us on the bus for the launch in England! But, it would seem that everyone is ready, if not actually packed, and we’ll be meeting some of our chickens for the first time in mere days!

Gun Boat Don leaves for England on July 2nd, where he and able teammates Will Houtz and Tommy Schultz will travel to Southampton to pick up our bus from the docks, then head up for a visit with the Adventurists in Bristol.  Imagining them driving the bus along the narrow country roads (to say nothing of the big highways) of southern England, of course with the steering wheel on the wrong side, gives me serious heartburn.

Fortunately, we’ve got a beautiful place to camp the week ahead of the rally, at Little Switzerland campground in Folkestone.  Tony and his staff have been so welcoming to us, and we are looking forward to enjoying the view of the English Channel from their hilltop pub.

Saturday July 13th we will leave Folkestone to go to the just-announced change of venue for the Launch Day.  As it turns out, the folks at Dover Castle were afraid we’d ruin their pile of rocks, so we’ll be launching from the beautiful  Bodium Castle instead! It was build in 1834 and even has a moat!  I’m sure there won’t be any chicken fights along the shore of the moat among our very mature group!

In other big news, we’ve gotten some wonderful new sponsorships, including a ton of school supplies from United Stationers, donations from DCN Transport, and a big boost to our Cool Earth campaign from Terry and Mary Kohler.  Plus the great folks at One Sim Card have donated a GSM phone and airtime minutes for us! There is still time to get one of our fantastic t-shirts, too, just let me know and we’ll put them in the mail to you before I leave for the launch on July 10th.  Check out our Sponsor page to see all the great folks who’ve donated!

More to come soon, including the grand premier of our first music video, and the official Team Dixie Chickens song, “Short Lived Short Bus Love Affair”, written by the very talented Bobby Bostick.

Dixie Sarah, mother hen, who leaves for England on July 9th.  Heaven help us that those boys are left without adult supervision that long!
