Our final leg, Crossing America, began March 12, 2014 and finished on June 10, 2014! We closed the loop on our circumnavigation after a month discovering the beauty of the USA and Canada. We launched from Seattle and headed on to British Columbia and the Yukon via the Stewart Cassiar Highway before hopping onto the Alaska Highway heading toward the Canadian Rockies. Stunning views in Montana, Wyoming, and the Green River Gorge area in Utah were highlights, as well as our favorite stop on the trip, Colorado.
We really enjoyed the Rocky Mountains and another milestone: driving the Trail Ridge Road, America’s highest elevation paved road, at 12,183 feet. From Colorado we drove eastward with fun stops in Memphis and Asheville before arriving home in Charleston. Our wonderful bus crew on this leg made the journey all that it was: many thanks to Kara, Hans, Amber, Tommy, Will, Adam, and Ralph for joining us along the way! Will and Don now hold the dubious distinction as the only two fools foolhardy enough to drive all the way around the world in a school bus! Congrats to both of them for surviving the diesel dungeon and gas station meals in 16 countries!
