12 Jun Our ship came in!
After so many months of planning, it seemed incredible that at last the Team Dixie Chicken bus would set sail across the Atlantic, but sail she did, on June 7, 2013.
We had to deliver her to the port a week early, but I drove her to work one last day across the Ravenel Bridge, and then enjoyed peeking over the rail every day to check on her.
Delivery day at the port was quite exciting, and we were so grateful for the help of our always patient friend and shipping guru, John Sease, for taking care of the paperwork and answering our endless questions about the process!
We also had the invaluable assistance of our friend Steve Milner, who seems to know everyone there and made us chickens look like veteran shippers instead of the rookies that we are! He escorted us into the port and around to the various check-in points, and shared our enthusiasm for what to him was a very mundane experience.
I did have the special treat to get to watch our chosen ship, the K-Line Georgia Highway, arrive at the Port of Charleston on Friday, June 7th, including a small bit of commentary from a random local evangelist to enliven the video and help you overlook my shaky first video attempt with the new camera!
At last check, the Georgia Highway was heading toward Southampton at 18 knots, expected to arrive in two weeks time.
