12 Nov Bus is Home
Sunday November 11, 2012
Team Dixie Chickens Bus have brought the bus home to roost! Our day started before 7am, for the long drive to Lenoir, NC to pick up the Chicken Bus. Bobby Bostick and Cale Cauley joined us for the trip, and thoroughly enjoyed what they claim is their first ride on a short bus. We met with Ben, who sold us the bus, and his great mechanic Danny at the bus shop so that Don and Danny could go over the systems, fluids, and tips from a lifetime’s worth of big diesel knowledge that Danny kindly shared with us.
After a short test drive and a few farewell pictures, we headed down the highway toward Charleston. Cale must have been yelled at a lot on the bus when he was a kid, as he was up and down, changing seats, and making faces at me while I was following in the car. Bobby, more mature, was only cited once for shooting spitballs by Don the bus driver.
Our sweet new ride is parked in the yard, ready for some fun practice runs for our fund-raising and probably a few more spitball fights while she gets outfitted with new decals and retrofits for the long journey we plan next summer.
