Cache Creek Backcountry

Cache Creek Backcountry

Leaving Cache Creek
Our night with Jim and Janet started with being led in darkness by Casey up a gravel mountain road with steep dropoffs on either side as we climbed higher and higher through the fir forests, finally opening up to a beautiful homestead by a rushing creek. A big campfire, gorgeous farm dogs, border collies even, and the nicest folks imaginable to welcome us home for the night.

A huge feast was also waiting, with beef ribs, pork chops, and chicken on the grill and a table loaded with sides and apple pie for dessert. We ate like prisoners, loving every bite!

We camped in their log cabin’s backyard, and the border collie named Sarah happily climbed into our tent in the morning for a belly rub. Jim, our amazing host, even cooked a massive breakfast for us, with good coffee, mounds of bacon, eggs, and toast.

Jim also took us for a pickup truck ride up to the jack pine ridge even higher up the mountain, showing us his cattle grazing land and acres of planted pines.

We took off for Prince George around noon, and Hans decided he should ride the roof Transfaragasan-style back down to the main road.

Kind and generous hosts, Janet and Jim made our stay a magical experience in the backcountry. We are so grateful to them and Jim’s nephew Casey for their outstanding Canadian hospitality.

Onward and northward!!
