06 May The Party Bus
Launch day for Crossing America is fast approaching, and with it comes lots of planning…for parties!
Champion bus babysitter Kara is kindly hosting a going-away party for the bus this weekend, Pacific NW style! All of the folks that have enjoyed road trips over the winter out there will be on hand to see us off, and hopefully a few will stow away for a bit of the Canadian journey.
We just learned that a couple of 2012 Mongol Rally veterans in British Columbia want us to stop in there for a night of BBQ and storytelling. Definitely looking forward to meeting Casey and Jim before we head further north toward the Yukon! Congratulations are also in order for Casey, expecting his second child within a few days of our visit…may we suggest “Dixie” as a suitable moniker for your newborn?
We’ll also be picking up the team’s most recent college graduate in British Columbia–Amber Barker will graduate on the 13th of May and join us the following day for the long trip back to South Carolina. Some folks choose to celebrate graduation with a grand tour of Europe, but not Amber–she’s decided that plonking along with us and the old bus are a perfect introduction to life after college!
A final bit of party news is the date for our welcome home party in Charleston. Our good friends Gerry and the gang at Seanachai Pub on Johns Island have graciously offered to host a party for us on June 15th, at 4pm. We hope all our Charleston friends will be able to join us. Fair warning, though: if the last time you saw the bus was at our April fundraiser at Seanachai, she’s got a lot more handprints, stickers, and signatures after almost 23,000 miles!
We may be planning plenty of parties, but could we ever match the “Sarita-level” partying back in Ulan Baatar? Not likely. We’ll miss you on this leg, Sarita!
