Crossing America Preparations

With only a few weeks to go until we leave for Seattle, excitement is building. Though our beloved bus has been in the very competent care of our wonderful friend Kara, Don plans to go out a few days early to check for any needed repairs and replace a couple of tires that suffered on the rubble-filled roads of Kazakhstan last summer.  Fortunately, Kara has made good use of the bus this winter, taking her on quite a few brewery tours with friends. It did our hearts good to see the old bus making great memories during her stay in the PacNW.

We leave from Washington State on May 12th, heading north into Canada and expect to make it back to Charleston by June 12th, after covering over 6,000 miles. We’ll visit three provinces in Canada: British Columbia, the Yukon, and Alberta, plus 11 states, including Alaska.  With more than 22,000 miles already under her tires on this trek, these last weeks on the long road home will be a worthy test of the Dixie Chicken Bus endurance, and ours as well.
