26 Aug On to Vladivostok
The bus left Ulan Baatar on Saturday morning, August 24th. On board for the 2300 mile trip to Vladivostok are Don, Will Houtz, Tommy Schultz, and Alex Gunter (recently of the Vermont based Blue Eyed Grizzly Clan rally team).
They are still using the tracker, so check out their progress through Siberia as they make their way along the top edge of China. The roads have been pretty awful to Chita, but since then they’ve seen nicer pavement and hope to make better time in the next few days.
Their brief stop in Chita was a welcome respite, and included a provisioning stop as well as a trip to a local Subway franchise. You have no idea how exciting a Subway sandwich can be after 6 weeks of playing “what did I order?” whenever presented with food choices in Cyrillic!
The bus (and the boys) are booked on the Eastern Dream ferry that leaves weekly from Vladivostok. The ferry stops in Donghae, South Korea but they will disembark at Sakaiminato Japan, with a plan to meet a couple of rally veterans there for the drive to the Port of Yokohama, Japan. The bus is booked on the Wallenius Wilhelmsen vessel Tamerlane for passage to Tacoma, Washington, leaving port on September 19th. The guys plan to drop the bus at the port on the 11th, then fly home the following day, 10 weeks and a few days since Don, Tommy, and Will left the USA for England.
Thanks so much for your continued interest in the bus and her whereabouts! Here she is, pulling out of the Chingghis Khan hotel in Ulan Baatar.
